This past Saturday, May 16th our congregation hosted the Annual Willamette Valley Men’s Day and Golf Scramble AppleOatPancakes_DTand it was a great day together.  There were 60 fellas here from nine different congregation spanning the entire length of the valley from Portland to Eugene. We had an excellent pancake breakfast thanks to Tim Haines, Jim Deibert and Bob Anderson.  I taught three sessions on our theme “Man Up, for the Church!” which I really enjoyed and which were well received by an attentive group.  Then we retired to the golf course and enjoyed great weather for the golf scramble which Grant Long, Jerry Sachtjen and Roger Elliott put together.
We had a great day!  Personally, I think the best part is the friendships that are developing between the men who attend these area men’s events.  Men from different congregations see each other four or five times a year, friendships start and grow and Christian faith is encouraged.  In addition a sense of partnership is slowly but surely developing between our congregations.  We really need more of this these days, as there are fewer churches of Christ and we are geographically further apart.  Everybody needs all the encouragement we can give and get!  It is a good gift from God to be part of a congregation and a fellowship with strong, deep ties that really strengthen us in discipleship to Jesus.  Thanks for being there fellas!
