Top 10 FAQ’s about Worship in the Park
1. When and where again?
Sunday, July 17th 10:30am at River Road Park. See the Map above for park address and directions.
2. What about Bible Classes and Junior Worship?
There will be no Bible classes and no Junior Worship. We will worship at our regular time (10:30am) and in our usual fashion, and we will all just stay together. Also, no attended nursery will be available.
3. What about the weather?
The forecast calls for 77 degrees and partly cloudy skies, with a 10% chance of rain. It should be great! We will be seated in a picnic pavilion and we will have additional pop-up canopies as well. We should be covered (pun definitely intended!), rain or shine.
4. Can I get there and will there be a place for me to sit?
The pavilion is immediately adjacent to the parking lot and has a drive through drop-off. If you can get into our building, you will find it even easier to get situated next Sunday. There are large picnic tables in the park already. We will be bringing extra folding chairs from the building and we are asking everyone to bring a camping chair for themselves and an extra for others.
5. What about the bathroom?
There is a very nice bathroom facility in the park. The downside…it is a bit of a walk. However, there is nice wide, level sidewalk between the picnic pavilion and the bathroom. But, it might be a good idea to “go” before you get to the park.
6. Will I be able to hear or see anything?
We will have a sound system and printed song sheets. You should be able to hear and participate in worship without any trouble or restriction.
7. What about the BBQ / Potluck meal?
We are having one and it will be delicious! The hamburgers, hotdogs, buns, condiments, drinks and paper goods will be provided and set up in advance. Side dishes and chips are to be brought by everyone else. Let’s make sure we do a really good job on this! Bring a side dish, prepare enough for your family and for someone else. We will have tables for all the food and access to power if you need to plug something in. Let’s make sure we have plenty of food for plenty of people.
8. Is anything else happening?
You bet! We will serve lunch absolutely ASAP after worship. There will be a game of “Ultimate Frisbee” for all who are interested, in the soccer field behind the picnic area. There are tennis and basketball courts, a playground and a splash fountain for the kiddos, and a walking path and plenty of space for bicycles. Feel free to bring games from home and plan to stay as long or as short as you like. There will plenty of time and space to “Meet and Greet” new folks and to visit with “the usual suspects.”
9. Who will be there?
All of us and who knows who else! The park is a great location for worship on a summer morning. Be there and invite other folks; co-workers, classmates, neighbors, relatives, friends and associates from all walks of life. Use our “Worship in the Park” invitation cards and pray that God will move folks you invite to join us. Then be prepared to welcome and receive any and all who are present.
10. Why are we doing this again?
This is a great question! We are creating an opportunity to invite people into friendship with us in the context of Christian worship, fellowship and hospitality. God works in and through the relationships of his church to draw all people to him. This is how we all became Christians and we are trusting him to work through our simple invitation and warm welcome to move others to follow Jesus with us.
So, in summary, be at the park Sunday, July 17th at 10:30am, bring a chair and a side dish and invite a friend or two to come with you. It will be a good day together!
See you Sunday, Howard and Todd
