When you think of education, it doesn’t always have the most enticing connotation. But in reality we all love to learn new things; Learn an easier way to do a task, learn a new game, or learn a cool new word to bewilder your friends – like Flummox. Kids love to learn as well, they have eager minds and education is something they crave in every aspect of their life. They are learning about things we didn’t even know existed. Now is the time we need to take advantage of our kids willingness to learn. We have some of the best teachers who have stepped up and are taking on the responsibility of filling our children’s minds with Jesus. But you know it doesn’t stop with us teaching our kids, some of the best education can come from them. As parents, we sometimes look at our children and think that because we are much older and wiser, we can only teach. In reality, we need to take a minute to learn the lessons our children are teaching us. Kids may not know a lot about the world, but in some ways this is their biggest strength, they possess brilliance in their simplicity. As we grow up our views of the world expand, but there are some basic and healthy values that we can forget with age, that children remind us of.
For this new quarter and this new year, I challenge everyone come to class on Sunday morning and bring your kids to class. Countless hours are spent in preparation for our kids and the teachers look forward to sharing this with your kids. The environment is amplified and perspectives increase when more children are present. Teachers want more students to teach and need more students to learn from. But it doesn’t just stop Sunday morning, it needs to continue throughout the week. I encourage parents to talk to your kids after church about what they studied in Bible class, what they learned, and what their perspective was on the Bible lessons we think we know all too well. Repetition is good for children, and you as a parent might learn something. So don’t just learn from your preacher, take some lessons home from your kids as well. ~M. Zoerner
