Don’t forget the special collection this Sunday for the Teen Uganda Mission Trip (July 17-31, 2014). Please consider giving sacrificially to help support this short term mission. According to David Platt, author of the best-selling book Radical, one of the best ways to catch a vision for God’s love for the world is to personally go and serve God in “another context” like a short term mission. This passionate leader of an evangelistic revival movement believes that people who go abroad for short burst of evangelistic service return to their home churches on fire for spreading that same message in their neighborhoods and communities. Anyone who has served on one of these ventures can testify to the life changing nature of short term missions. So, by sending these teens to Uganda, we believe God will work wonderful things in the lives of people in Uganda but also in the lives of these young people from Keizer. It will positively affect their families, schools, our congregation, and our community. Below is some information that will help you understand the nature of this mission and help you determine how you want to get involved.
- This trip is the first time a group from Keizer has gone to help support the Mission Work in Uganda
- The team will help the Martins in several areas of ministry. Among other things, they will be presenting a Vacation Bible School, helping with a Farming God’s Way workshop, participating in a Community Health outreach program, and encouraging the families of the missionary community.
- The youth on the team are: Cassie and Carrie Broberg, Lydia Nichol, Lydia Busch, Nick Estacio, and Makyra Williamson
- The chaperones on the team are: Jim Boatner, Mike Broberg, Dan Estacio, and Melody Williamson
- The youth group does a major mission trip every three years. The last two years the youth mission trips have been very inexpensive.
- Each youth is personally paying for at least 10% of the total cost of their trip.
- Each youth is performing 20 hours of church service as a requirement for the trip.
- Each youth is raising funds individually from family and friends for the trip.
- The entire team will benefit from the group fundraising efforts (such as this special collection)
- The Elders hope that the congregation will contribute around $10,000 at the special collection (that is around 40% of the total cost of the mission trip)
