IMG_2313The new construction on the west and north sides of our building is moving along at a pretty good clip.  In just a couple of short months all of the vegetation was scraped off, the soil leveled and the foundation for the new road has been laid.  New sewers and water mains have been installed as well.  Before the winter rains arrive we might be looking at a new road running right past our building.  Wow, that’s fast.
Functionally speaking the development of Area C is turning our building around.  What used to be hidden by blackberry bushes, the old Christmas tree farm and our neighbors houses will now be the most visible part of our property to everyone who drives by.   It’s going to take awhile to get used to this.
This new orientation is going to put a premium on the upkeep of our facilities.  Every part of both of our buildings will now be clearly visible to all of our neighbors and every passer-by. As a matter of fact you can now see the building clearly from the I-5 overpass!  I think we are going to have to clean up our act a little bit!
External building maintenance and first impressions are kind of a “no win” situation.  If we do a good job IMG_2314keeping our property clean, tidy and in good repair, some folks might notice.  If we allow the trees, shrubs and flowerbeds to become overgrown, the paint to peel off and the windows to be filthy; everyone will notice!  Keeping the place up simply communicates to our neighbors that we care for our building and that we are aware of first impressions.  No one is going to become a Christian because the lawn has been mowed, but they may not even give us a chance to get a good word in for Jesus if it hasn’t.
All this to say, it is time for our next
Congregational Workday!
 Saturday, October 3rd from 8:00am–12:00pm.
There will be doughnuts, coffee and lots of chores for everyone including painting the cross!  Please plan on being here and let’s make this place shine!  See you Sunday,  Howard
